Description: A richly scented species, with shuttlecock-shaped pink blooms above attractive, marbled foliage from winter to early spring. This species has given rise to many modern hybrids. Ideal grown in borders, alpine houses or as a pot plant.

Sowing Instructions: Soak seed in warm water for 24 hours before sowing. Sow September to March on the surface of lightly firmed, moist seed compost in pots or trays. Cover seed with a fine sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Keep at a temperature of between 10-15C (50-59F), and place container in darkness. Keep the surface of the compost moist but not waterlogged; germination will usually take 1 to 2 months. Place in light conditions as soon as seedlings begin to appear.

Growing Instructions: When large enough to handle, transplant into 7.5cm (3 inch) pots or trays. Gradually acclimatise young plants to outdoor conditions for 10-15 days before planting out after all risk of frost, 15cm (6 inches) apart.

Aftercare Instructions: For best results, provide a fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. Ensure tubers are kept dry during their dormancy period.
